About me
You never really appreciate your surname until you get older. The name Amphlett used to annoy me as a child. It was odd, long, and difficult to spell. People looked strangely at you when you said your name and asked for the spelling. Even at a genealogical conference in Malvern, Worcestershire, the surname drew blanks, even though I knew it was an inherently Worcestershire name.
It wasnt until I started to work in Droitwich, where instantly people recognised the name and talked about a Judge Amphlett and Amphletts living in a local village called Martley.
The internet was in its infancy at the time, so it was difficult to find more information about the surname but I did manage to link to a Monika Caroyln who was publishing a newsletter called The RiverPeople all about the Amphlett family name. I have since lost touch and believe she donated her research to the National Archives.
My mission
My goal is to record and document as much as I can of this unique surname. After struggling to find much indepth information online and after conducting extensive research, my mission is to use this website as a repository for Amphlett information for all those lucky enough to be born into this unique and distinctively Worcester name.
